NiCare and the Ministry of Primary Health Care in Niger State have joined forces to ensure everyone has access to quality healthcare. Most NiCare services are delivered through Primary Health Care facilities, making this partnership crucial. In order to strengthen the collaboration and partnership between Niger State Contributory Health Agency and Niger State Ministry of Primary Health Care, the NiCare management met with the Hon. commissioner for Primary Health Care to discuss ways on how to improve the quality of health care services given to NiCare enrollees at the Primary Health Care Facilities. Leading the discussion, the Executive Secretary Niger State Contributory Health Agency, Sulayman Abu-Bakr outlined the areas needed for collaboration to include, need for change in attitude to work, improve the poor state of PHC facilitates and equipments. Also, to bridge the manpower gap and provide necessary training to reorient the PHC staff and the Ministry should help with the payment of state counterpart funding which is required for the survival of NiCare. He added that there is need to partner Ministry of PHC to make sure that is captured in the budget through Ministryof Planning Commission. Responding, the Hon. Commissioner, Ministry of Primary Health Care Dr Ibrahim Dangana stressed that more progress can be made bypartnering with NiCare. He said to achieve the goal of Universal Health Care of qualitative, accessible and affordable healthcare, existing gaps in terms of synergy and communication need to be closed, also strengthen communication with relevant stakeholders including ward development heads. He promised to look into the issue of attitude to work by holding staff to account and setting out disciplinary measures. He urged NiCare to employ its ICT system to track quality of care in the PHCs and to put the directors of PHCs on check. He also encouraged the partnership between the two parties that working closely together will bring in more enrollees which will translate to more capitation and better funding to facilities.
